Achilles Tendon Repair
Overview
Achilles tendon repair is performed to reattach or reinforce a ruptured or torn Achilles tendon, restoring function and preventing long-term disability. It is common in athletes and individuals with sudden, forceful ankle movements.
Procedure :
- 1) The damaged ends of the Achilles tendon are surgically sutured together.
- 2) If needed, a tendon graft may be used for reinforcement.
- 3) The area is immobilized to allow proper healing.
Post-Operative Care :
- 1) Weight-Bearing Status : NWB for 4-6 weeks, transitioning to PWB with a CAM boot and heel lifts.
- 2) Physical Therapy : Starts at 4-6 weeks, focusing on gentle stretching, ROM exercises, and progressive strengthening.
- 3) Return to Activity : 6-12 months depending on tendon healing and individual progress.
