Haglund's Deformity
Overview
Haglund’s deformity, also known as “pump bump,” is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel that can cause pain and irritation. Surgery involves removing the excess bone and relieving pressure on the Achilles tendon.
Procedure :
- 1) A small incision is made to shave down the bony prominence.
- 2) The Achilles tendon may be partially detached and reattached if needed.
- 3) The foot is immobilized for healing.
Post-Operative Care :
- 1) Weight-Bearing Status : NWB for 2-4 weeks, then PWB in a boot.
- 2) Physical Therapy : Begins at 4-6 weeks, focusing on ankle mobility, Achilles stretching, and strengthening.
- 3) Return to Activity : 3-6 months, depending on healing and soft tissue recovery.
