Foot & Ankle Fracture Treatment
Overview
Foot and ankle fractures range from minor stress fractures to complex breaks requiring surgical fixation. Treatment depends on the severity of the fracture.
Procedure :
- 1) Non-Surgical : Immobilization in a cast or boot with restricted weight-bearing.
- 2) Surgical : Fracture is stabilized with plates, screws, or rods for proper healing.
Post-Operative Care :
- 1) Weight-Bearing Status : NWB for 4-8 weeks, transitioning to PWB based on healing.
- 2) Physical Therapy : Begins after immobilization, focusing on joint mobility, strength, and balance training.
- 3) Return to Activity : 3-6 months depending on fracture type and healing progress.
