Bunion & Hammertoe Surgery
Overview
Bunion and hammertoe surgery corrects foot deformities that cause pain, misalignment, and difficulty wearing shoes. Surgery involves realigning the bones and soft tissues to restore proper foot function.
Procedure :
- 1) Bunionectomy : The bony prominence is shaved down, and the toe joint is repositioned.
- 2) Hammertoe Correction : Tendons and ligaments are released or tightened, and pins/screws may be used to maintain proper alignment.
Post-Operative Care :
- 1) Weight-Bearing Status : Immediate PWB in a surgical shoe for 4-6 weeks.
- 2) Physical Therapy : Begins at 4 weeks, focusing on toe mobility, balance, and strengthening exercises.
- 3) Return to Activity : 8-12 weeks, depending on swelling and mobility.
